Paris Gare de Lyon: Station, Platforms and Transfer Guide

Paris Gare de Lyon is a major railway station in Paris, despite the city name in its title. Use this guide to plan your arrival at the station and understand a connection before you travel; use the live station displays to find the actual departure platform.

Confirm the station before leaving

Paris Gare de Lyon is not Lyon Part-Dieu or Lyon Perrache, which are in Lyon. It is also separate from the nearby Paris Austerlitz station. Read the station, travel date and train number together. A hotel address or a city-only search label is not sufficient to identify your departure.

Find the hall and then the platform

Gare de Lyon has several halls and platform areas. Consult the current station map and follow signs for the hall associated with your train. Platform information can appear or change close to departure, so check the display again rather than following an old screenshot. Match the train number and time, because a train’s final destination may be beyond your stop.

Allow time from local transport

The time a Métro or RER reaches the station is not the time you are ready at the intercity platform. Add the walk through passages, ticket barriers, lifts or escalators, and the boarding requirements of your service. If a route planner suggests a cross-Paris connection, include the trip between stations and a buffer appropriate to your luggage and mobility.

Plan assistance and bags

Check current step-free routes and arrange assistance with the relevant service if needed. Pack bags you can manage through station passages and stow on board. If you need left luggage, verify current opening hours, size restrictions and location before relying on it. Do not assume a facility shown on an old map remains available.

Handle a transfer to another Paris terminal

For Gare du Nord, Gare de l’Est or Montparnasse, plan a separate local journey using a current transport planner. Check whether the local fare is included; long-distance tickets do not automatically cover every city transfer. With separate onward tickets, read the missed-connection terms before selecting a tight itinerary.

France Rails is an independent journey-planning service. Online booking and ticket issuance are not available here. Verify departures and final fares with your chosen operator or ticket seller.
