Paris to Nice by Train: Day Trains, Night Trains and Stations

Two alternatives to Nice-Ville: daytime trains from Paris Gare de Lyon, or an overnight service from Paris Austerlitz when offered for your date. These are separate departure choices, not successive stops or a transfer between the two Paris stations. Check the actual itinerary before booking. SNCF Connect
Paris to Nice is a long-distance journey to the French Riviera. Begin by deciding whether you want to travel during the day or investigate an overnight option. These choices can involve different Paris stations, accommodation types and arrival plans.
Daytime trains: check Gare de Lyon
Paris Gare de Lyon and Nice-Ville are the station pair to investigate for daytime high-speed services. Read the full itinerary to distinguish a through train from a journey with changes. High-speed branding does not mean the train travels at high speed over the entire route; the actual duration includes the coastal section and intermediate stops.
Overnight travel: check Austerlitz
If an INTERCITÉS de nuit service is offered for your date, check Paris Austerlitz as the departure station. It is separate from Gare de Lyon. Compare the accommodation offered, berth arrangements, luggage storage and arrival time. An overnight train is not guaranteed to operate on every date or to have your preferred accommodation available.
Nice-Ville, Nice Saint-Augustin and the airport
Nice-Ville is a central station useful for many city stays. Nice Saint-Augustin and Nice Côte d’Azur Airport are different locations. For a flight connection, plan the appropriate local transfer and airport procedures; do not treat a train arrival in Nice as arrival at the terminal.
Build a realistic arrival day
With a morning arrival, ask your accommodation about luggage storage before check-in. With an evening arrival, check your final local connection. For onward rail travel towards Antibes, Cannes, Monaco or Menton, confirm the stops and separate ticket conditions for the regional leg.
Budget for the whole journey
Compare the fare, any berth or comfort choice, luggage conditions and transport at both ends. Overnight travel may change accommodation needs, but do not assume it always saves the cost of a hotel. Check exchange rules before attaching a rigid programme or a separately booked flight to the trip.
