Paris Montparnasse Station: Departures and Paris Transfers

Planning diagram for arrival by Métro: reach Montparnasse–Bienvenüe, follow signs to the mainline station hall, then check the live departure board for your platform. This is not a station map; walking time and accessible routes depend on your entrance and needs. SNCF Gares & Connexions · Eurostar
Paris Montparnasse is a key departure point to investigate for Bordeaux and destinations in western France. The main travel risk is often the approach to the platform: allow time for the station hall, passages and your train’s boarding requirements.
Read the full departure information
Check the exact station, hall when provided, departure time and train number. Montparnasse is separate from Paris Gare de Lyon, Gare du Nord and Gare de l’Est. Do not use the closest Paris station to your hotel unless it is the one on the ticket.
Allow time from Montparnasse–Bienvenüe Métro
A journey planner’s arrival at the Métro stop does not include every step to the long-distance platform. Follow signs into the railway station and allow time for passages, level changes and bags. Choose a suitable route if you need lifts; confirm current accessibility information rather than assuming the shortest route is step-free.
Use live displays to find the train
Find the train by number and time, then check the hall and platform information. Services can stop at several cities, so the final destination on the board may not be yours. Stay attentive to announcements or display changes, especially when entering from a less familiar side of the station.
Plan a cross-Paris connection
A transfer from Gare du Nord or Gare de l’Est requires a local journey across Paris. Include time to leave the arrival platform, buy or validate the right local ticket, reach Montparnasse and board the onward train. Check missed-connection conditions if the two long-distance tickets were purchased separately.
Connect after a flight
For an airport arrival, add border formalities where applicable, baggage reclaim, the airport-to-city journey and the station walk. Choose a margin that fits the uncertainty of the flight. A scheduled airport arrival is not proof that you can catch a specific train; consider the flexibility of the fare before choosing it.
